Trompeau Bakery: There are few better ways to
start any given weekday than a warm, fresh, buttery,
yeasty, flaky-soft croissant with a smooth cup of coffee.
Good thing Trompeau bakery on East Evans Avenue
opens at 6:30 a.m. six days a week. In a town where
(far) lesser croissants go for $3 or more, Trompeau’s
light-but-decadent croissants will set you back only
$1.25 each. Add on a cup of chicory-rich joe and you’re
out for under 3 bucks. It’s gonna be a lovely day. | 1729

Culver’s Frozen Custard and Butterburgers: This Wisconsin chain’s newest link opened a month ago in Fort Collins. For Midwesterners craving loose-packed burgers on buttered buns, golden onion rings and pork tenderloin sandwiches, and dense frozen custard, Culver’s delivers a taste of Dairyland. The large menu offers salads, too, but it’s hard to resist the made-fresh-to-order burgers. There are two Culver’s in Colorado Springs, and look for locations in Greeley and Thornton to open in August. |918 S. Lemay Ave., Fort Collins, 970-493-3639|Kristen Browning-Blas

Big Mike’s Original Recipe Barbecue Sauce: Rubs and marinades might prime ribs and chicken for the backyard grill, but sauce seals the deal. Big Mike’s holds its own among any out-of-state concoction (and that means you too, Kansas City). Made and marketed in the Centennial State and part of the “Colorado Proud” family of products, this zesty sauce has flavor and minimal heat. For more, try the spicy or hot versions. |Available from small specialty stores; bigmikes.com; 303-450-7091.|Ellen Sweets
