Jack Whacker Wheat Ale, $6.99 per six-pack
Thousands zip past it on I-70 every day but few pull off at the beer oasis known as the Tommyknocker Brewery in Idaho Springs.
Opened 10 years ago, Tommyknocker has consistently produced medal winners, including its highly praised Butt Head Bock and Maple Nut Brown Ale.
A new star for Tommyknocker, located in the historic Placer Inn, is Jack Whacker Wheat Ale, which bagged a silver medal at this year’s World Beer Cup in Seattle after a silver at the 2005 Great American Beer Festival.
Jack Whacker, unfiltered, is made with 30 percent malted wheat and laced with lemon grass, giving it a citrus flavor and making it a light summer sipper.
It’s available throughout Colorado and 15 other states in 12-ounce six-packs.|Tommyknocker Brewery, 1401 Miner St., Idaho Springs, 303-567-2688; tommyknocker.com.|Dick Kreck
