Getting your player ready...
Chores this week include:
- Cover cherry trees with protective netting and stake down to prevent birds from getting under the netting.
- Remove faded roses by pruning back to just above a leaf node with five leaflets. Fertilize and water deeply to encourage the next round of blooms. Mulch.
- Start a second crop of broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower to transplant later for a fall garden. Start cool-weather greens (lettuce, spinach) in a shaded spot or in a container.
- Slugs can devastate your plants. Put out containers of beer to drown them. Or you can loosely roll newspapers and place them around your plants. The slugs will hide there during the night and you can throw them away with the papers the next morning.
