HONOLULU-

A day after go! and Hawaiian airlines announced promotional interisland fares of $19 plus fees and taxes one-way, Aloha Airlines came out with its own offer–free tickets.

Aloha said it would give away 1,000 free round-trip interisland tickets Friday for flights between Honolulu and the other main islands.

It is the latest chapter of Hawaii's fare war, which heated up as go! launched service Friday, becoming the state's third interisland jet carrier. The letters are good for travel between June 24 and Dec. 14.

Aloha is calling the promotion the "Great Go Away Giveaway," taking a jab at its newest competitor.

"It's not all about price," said Thom Nulty, Aloha's senior vice president of marketing and sales. "Anybody can offer a $19 fare. It's about being an active part of the community and all of the great things Aloha brings to interisland flying."

Go! on Wednesday announced it is offering a promotional one-way fare of $19, plus fees and taxes, according to parent company Mesa Air Group Inc. The fare was quickly matched by Hawaiian Airlines.

The $19 fare became available at noon Wednesday and will remain available until 11:59 p.m. Friday or until the special tickets sell out. They will be valid through July 9.
