Sun Microsystems is gearing up to announce layoffs Thursday, the first round in an global restructuring that would reduce the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company’s workforce by 5,000, according to sources inside the company.
Sun employs 4,700 workers in the state, a large chunk coming from Louisville-based StorageTek, which was acquired by Sun last June.
It is unclear how many Colorado workers would be affected by the expected announcement. Sources said that members of Sun’s executive team in California are scheduled to visit the company tomorrow, as well.
