Tyler Ahles, a 6-foot-2, 226-pound linebacker from California, is the latest prep player to give an oral commitment to Colorado for the 2007 recruiting class.
Ahles, who plays for Cajon High School in San Bernardino, Calif., is the fifth known commitment for the Buffs and the first from the Golden State. He recorded 96 tackles and three sacks as a junior.

UNC football adds Big 12 transfers
The Northern Colorado football team added two Division I-A transfers Thursday: David Dyches, a senior place-kicker from Nebraska, and sophomore tight end Brian Barmann of Missouri. Dyches made 14 field goals as a freshman in 2003. Barmann set Missouri high school records for career receptions and receiving yardage, and played in 10 games for the Tigers in 2005.
MLL, Outlaws players OK for Vail Shootout
Major League Lacrosse commissioner David Gross will allow MLL players to compete in the Vail Shootout once their Saturday MLL games are complete. As a result, Denver Outlaws rookie Geoff Snider and Rochester all-stars John Grant and Brodie Merrill will be able to join a roster of Canadians preparing for the world championships. The squad, known as Team Mammoth, opens play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Ford Field. The 34th annual Vail Shootout runs through Tuesday.

Another McConnell to coach CU hoops
Tom McConnell, the older brother of head coach Kathy McConnell-Miller, was hired by his sister as assistant coach for the University of Colorado women’s basketball team. McConnell returns to college coaching after being out since the 1998-99 season, when he was head men’s coach at St. Francis (Pa.) University.
