United recalling 125 pilots after shortage
UAL Corp.’s United Airlines will recall 125 furloughed pilots after a shortage forced the carrier to cancel some U.S. flights.
Heavy rains along the U.S. East Coast forced the airline to cancel 186 flights on June 24 and June 25, United spokeswoman Jean Medina said in an interview.
United flies 3,700 flights daily. Storm-delayed flights often mean pilots will reach the maximum daily work hours set by U.S. law before they complete their scheduled flying, forcing airlines to turn to reserve crews.
Without enough reserves, airlines must cancel flights.
