Four Colorado State players and Wyoming’s special-teams ace were selected Thursday to the preseason all-Mountain West Conference team, while voters at CollegeFootballNews.com did not tab any Air Force players as conference favorites.

Receiving the nod for CSU were: running back Kyle Bell, wide receiver Johnny Walker, cornerback Robert Herbert and punter Jimmie Kaylor. The Cowboys’ Hoost Marsh was selected as both kickoff and punt returner.

Fazekas receives WAC honor

Nevada junior Nick Fazekas, a former Ralston Valley High School standout, was named as the Western Athletic Conference’s outstanding male athlete for 2005-06.

Fazekas is a two-time WAC basketball player of the year and has helped the Wolf Pack to three straight conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2004. He was a third-team AP All-American this past season.

Two DU players qualify for women’s amateur

University of Denver player Jessica Yam of San Diego and Kasey Claussen of Fort Collins were co-medalists in United States Golf Association sectional qualifying at Green Gables Country Club, shooting 2-over-par 73s. They qualify for the women’s amateur, Aug. 7-13 at Pumpkin Ridge G.C. in Oregon, along with Christa Spedding of Granbury, Texas, and Katie Kempter of Albuquerque, who shot 75s. Kempter is Yam’s teammate at DU.
