Who: Michael and Hillary Beck-Gifford of Fort Collins

Where: Casa de los Pelicanos, Rincon de Guayabitos, Nayarit

Best meal: The shrimp at any restaurant was our favorite. Every morning you can see the fresh fish and shrimp being sold right off the boats that are pulled up onto the sand.

Best deal: Our stay at the Casa de los Pelicanos, a bed and breakfast, was steps away from the beach. There are three guest rooms/suites for between $85 and $135 a night, including a homemade gourmet breakfast for two. Debra and Glen Triplett are outstanding hosts.

Best time to go: We went in late February and the weather was perfect; sunny with temperatures in the 80s. It’s very hot and humid during the summer months. Christmas and Easter are extremely busy.

Best travel tip: You don’t need a car, just take a taxi ($45-$50) or taxi/bus ($15-$20) from the Puerto Vallarta airport. It’s simple to get around town and beach by walking or taxi. Brush up on your Canadian.
