Allen Iverson, an object of the Nuggets’ affection, expressed some interest in remaining in Philadelphia during a news conference Friday. But the 76ers guard also showed willingness to play elsewhere if need be.
The Nuggets, Boston and Atlanta are among the teams linked to Iverson.
“I want to be a Sixer,” he told reporters at a charity announcement in Washington. “I’ve said that since Day One. But if I’m not wanted, then I definitely don’t want to be a Sixer and I’m willing to start my career all over. But everybody knows that I want to be a Philadelphia 76er.”

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that newly acquired Utah guard Derek Fisher was told by Jazz officials that No. 4 would not be available for his jersey. Carlos Boozer also was denied the number when he signed with Utah last season. The Tribune suggested this was because of future plans to retire the number, also worn by Nuggets assistant coach Adrian Dantley.
Dantley said Saturday that he talked with Utah owner Larry Miller during Denver’s April game there, but has received no indication of a jersey retirement. Certain pockets of Jazz fans have lobbied for the jersey retirement.
“He talked to me when we played a game and he said a few words,” Dantley said. “He just said, ‘Be patient,’ something to that effect. He didn’t say he would retire it.”
