Zippered omelet: This is one not to try. Zooming around the Internet turned up a bad idea: You fill a resealable bag with omelet fixings, dunk it in boiling water, and voila, a ready-made breakfast. Problem is, plastic bags are not made to withstand boiling temperatures and could melt while cooking. Also, research has not confirmed whether cancer-causing chemicals can leach into the food, so use boilable vacuum-pack bags or stick to the omelet pan. | Kristen Browning-Blas
The Butterhorn Cafe and Bakery: Join the crowd waiting for a table on weekend mornings at this Frisco breakfast and lunch place. The Eggy Bread (cinnamon-fruit French toast) and the Whole Grain Delight (batter-dipped six-grain bread, served with real maple syrup) satisfy a morning sweet tooth. Savory palates will find frittatas, huevos rancheros and homemade biscuits and gravy here. Be sure to ask for a side of home fries with the Butterhorn’s creamy roasted red pepper sauce. | 408 Main St., Frisco, 970-668-3997 | Kristen Browning-Blas
