Site of the week: Amateur art on the Internet can quickly devolve into either sheer dreck or pornography, but there are some cool sites out there when someone points you where to look. Art fans are intrigued by Darwin Bell’s plays on language and photography at darwinbell.com/signlanguage/shell.html. Bell finds words in public signs that make up common phrases, or twists on those phrases, such as “convenience is the root of all evil.” Of course, the works are for sale, but you can always browse online.
Watch this Web video: Friends returning from a Lake Powell trip made us reminisce about camping trips and fishing holes up the side canyons of that magnificent Utah oasis. Then we noticed some tech genius had managed to fix a video camera to a radio-controlled airplane at Lake Powell and posted the resulting movie on the Internet. It’s a gas, not only for evocative sights of the lake and houseboats, but for the flight of imagination: How many other landmarks can we cover with this kind of amateur aerial movie?
