SCOTT GETS “DESPERATE”

“Desperate Housewives” is adding characters for its third season after a down second year. Scottish actor Dougray Scott will play Susan Meyer’s (Teri Hatcher) new love interest, the Sun reported. Scott recently starred in the ABC miniseries “The Ten Commandments.” Mischa Barton, whose character was killed off in the Fox drama “The O.C.,” also is rumored to be joining the ABC Sunday night series.

LEE SIGNS DEAL WITH NBC

Spike Lee has signed a deal to develop a drama series for NBC. Lee will serve as an executive producer on the project and may direct a pilot episode, zap2it.com reports. Lee directed the pilot for the new CBS show “Shark” and has an upcoming documentary on Hurricane Katrina on HBO.

GOLDBERG LIKES “CHRIS”

Whoopi Goldberg will appear in a couple of episodes of Chris Rock’s comedy “Everybody Hates Chris” on the new CW network this fall, USA Today reported. Goldberg will play Louise, a new neighbor who moves into the ‘hood from Queens.

“LOST” NEWS

Good news for “Lost” fans: ABC will not air any reruns of the series during its third season. The bad news is there will be a 13-week gap between the show’s first run of episodes in the fall and the final 15 or 16 episodes During that break, ABC will air “Day Break,” a new drama starring Taye Diggs as a Los Angeles detective framed for murder who relives the same day, a la “Groundhog Day,” to prove his innocence.

REALITY CHECK

Sci-Fi Channel debuts a six-episode reality series, “Who Wants to be a Super Hero?” at 7 p.m. Thursday. Matthew Atherton (“Feedback”) of Colorado Springs is one of 11 contestants.
