It took nearly six years, but the number of Colorado workers on employer payrolls has finally surpassed the old record set back in December 2000.

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment reported today that the state’s seasonally unadjusted employment count, gathered from non-farm payrolls, was 2,289,200. That is the first time a raw monthly count has surpassed the old record of 2,274,600 set back in December 2000.

Colorado’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stayed steady in June at 4.5 percent, according to today’s labor report. The number of unemployed individuals declined 800 to 117,700.

“Although employment and unemployment levels have followed a seesaw pattern this year, overall labor market conditions remain relatively stable,” said Rick Grice, the department’s executive director.
