Lockheed Martin announced today that its Jefferson County-based Space Systems division posted a 31 percent increase in revenue during the second quarter.
The unit had revenue of $2.1 billion, up from $1.6 billion during the second quarter of 2005. Operating profit for Space Systems rose to $189 million from $146 million.
Lockheed employs about 10,000 people in Colorado, including about 5,000 in its Space Systems division at its Waterton Canyon plant in Jefferson County.
The Bethesda, Md.-based defense contractor said its company-wide earnings swelled 26 percent in the second quarter, as its information technology and systems segment continued to outpace sales of the fighter jets and military planes. The company also raised its 2006 outlook.
Lockheed, the nation’s largest military supplier, reported earnings of $580 million, or $1.34 per share, up from $461 million, or $1.02 per share, in the second quarter of 2005. The 2006 results included one-time gains from stock and land sales that added 3 cents per share.
