“Masterpieces of French Painting” to travel
from Metropolitan to Fine Arts in 2007
It’s not too early for those who can’t seem to make it to New York but do travel to Houston to plan a stop at the Museum of Fine Arts sometime between Feb. 4 and May 6 to see “The Masterpieces of French Painting From The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1800-1920.” The Met is lending 135 works, including pieces by Monet, Manet, Cézanne, Degas, Renoir, Matisse, Picasso and Van Gogh, a “virtual who’s who of 19th- and early 20th- century French art,” said Peter C. Marzio, director of the Museum of Fine Arts. Admission to the exhibition will require a timed-entry ticket (details to be announced in the fall) that also includes general admission to the museum, which is $7 per adult. International Film Festival offers focus
on social, world issues through event
The Tahoe-Reno International Film Festival Aug. 23-27 once again will bring together filmmakers from all over the globe, many of whom have brought their life’s work dedicated to social change and environmental awareness. Screenings of such culturally sensitive films as “10 Questions for the Dalai Lama” and “Bombhunters” are interspersed with films such as “Illusion,” starring Kirk Douglas, about a filmmaker looking back on his life. “Chihuly at Botanical Garden” provides
foliage as backdrop to hand-blown glass
Through Oct. 29, visitors to the New York Botanical Garden can experience the hand-blown glass masterpieces of artist Dale Chihuly, whose monumental sculptures are made from thousands of parts. The installations have been arranged to blend in with nature, with Chihuly works nestled around Victorian-era bedding plants in the Conservatory, as well as glass works designed to float in the pools with waterlilies and lotus near the courtyard.
