The Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce is moving its offices from Capitol Hill to downtown Denver.
The chamber will move to 410 17th St., from its current location at 1448 Pennsylvania St., effective Sept. 1.
The move marks the beginning of a number of changes for the chamber, said former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, who is serving as interim president of the chamber.
“Being on 17th Street is good for the image of the chamber,” he said. “Seventeenth Street is a business street, and it is appropriate for the chamber to be on the business street for Denver.”
Webb took over leadership of the chamber in April, following the resignation of Robert Willis, who is now an assistant vice president for the University of Colorado Foundation.
At the time, chamber chairman Odell Barry said Webb would likely hold the post for six months.
On Wednesday, Webb declined to elaborate on new strategies for the chamber or whether he will stay on with the organization for more than six months.
He said he would release more information at a news conference following the move.
The chamber has more than 750 members, according to previous accounts from chamber officials.
As of last year, the nonprofit group had an annual budget of $500,000, up from $150,000 in 2003, according to previous statements from Willis.
