Jeff Sonke led all scorers with three goals – and his team’s only 2-point scores – to lead the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse to a come-from-behind 12-11 victory Saturday over the Long Island Lizards at Mitchel Athletic Complex in New York.
Sonke’s score at 11:53 in the first period put Denver ahead 4-0 and his 2-pointer at 10:59 of the second gave the Outlaws a 7-2 lead.
But Long Island scored six unanswered goals – three by Tim Goettelmann – and the Lizards took a 9-7 lead midway through the third. Denver responded with three straight goals, from Benson Erwin, Matt Brown (assisted by Sonke) and Hunter Lochte. Brendan Mundorf’s goal at 10:49 of the fourth proved the game-winner.

Denver’s Mark Hubbard shot a 1-over-par 73 and is in fourth place with a three-round total 218 at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Hubbard trails leader Pavit Tangkamolprasert of Thailand, who shot a 76 on Saturday at the PGA National Resort course but kept a 1-stroke lead at 215.
