A report of a plane crash on Pikes Peak in El Paso County turned out to be a false alarm, according to El Paso County Search and Rescue.

When rescuers reached the area where a person claimed to see the plane go down, they merely found trees and logs, said Kevin Classen, incident commander of El Paso County Search and Rescue.

The person who reported the crash on Saturday night said they saw a glint of light and that the plane might be a white Cessna with a red stripe.

Classen says the error was probably made because of the way the light was cast over the area and he does not believe the person who reported the crash purposely tried to deceive them.

“It was a credible report,” he said.
