Title: Get Over
Sponsor: Peggy Lamm for Congress
Message: As a state senator, Ed Perlmutter was one of three legislators who voted against legislation that lifted a 10-year statute of limitations on some sexual assault cases. The limitations would be lifted if there was DNA evidence that could help in the prosecution.
Fact: Perlmutter did indeed vote against HB 1344, which lifted the 10-year statute of limitations for sexual assault crimes when DNA evidence solved those crimes.
He was one of three legislators who did so.
“I really can’t comprehend how Ed Perlmutter could cast such an indefensible vote,” Lamm said in a prepared statement accompanying the release of the commercial. “Ed needs to explain how he could possibly oppose using DNA evidence to solve sexual assault crimes that have gone unpunished.”
Perlmutter said he voted against the legislation because he believed it was unconstitutional. He said he has supported other women’s causes.
In 2001 and 2002, he received 100 percent ratings on issues important to the Colorado Women’s Agenda, a statewide political advocacy group that pushes women’s issues.
