Avalanche defenseman Jordan Leopold had surgery Tuesday to repair a hernia.
“After further medical testing and evaluation it was determined that rehabilitation alone wouldn’t correct the problem,” Avalanche trainer Matt Sokolowski said. “We expect him to be back to full speed in 10-to-12 weeks.”
Leopold, who turns 26 on Thursday, was acquired from the Calgary Flames on June 24 for Alex Tanguay.
In 214 NHL games over three seasons with Calgary, Leopold had 15 goals and 52 assists.
The Avs also acquired two second-round picks from Calgary in the trade. Along with next year’s second-round pick, Colorado received Codey Burki, a 19-year-old center who has played in the Western Hockey League the past three seasons.
