How’d you know?
Last week: “Lighthouse of the Plains,” Kit Carson
Winner: Gary Terrell, Strasburg
The tower was created by Owen T. “Red” Moreland at his home in Aroya, and is now at the Kit Carson Museum. Red died in the Hugo old folks’ home more than a year ago. Red welded battleships during World War II and returned to Colorado after the war. Red was not only an exceptional welder but was very artistic. Another talent was making wine in his basement, the consumption of which perhaps led to the surrealistic pattern of the tower.
Almost home: Ed Harold, Weskan, Kan.
Red always extolled the virtues of smoked meats and onions. The excellent welder he was shows in his ability to knit together various types of metals. The tower is in the Kit Carson Museum lot at the corner where you turn to go to my mother-in-law’s house.
