Students who are active in such sports as soccer, football, basketball and baseball get better grades than those who don’t exercise or are only moderately active, according to a study by the American College of Sports Medicine.
For the research, 214 middle school students were randomly assigned to a PE course, and their physical activity was measured, as were their grades in core subjects such as English and math. PE during the school day “may reduce boredom and help keep kids’ attention in the classroom,” according to Dawn Podulka Coe, the study’s lead author.

Risk of miscarriage increases with the father’s age, not just the mother’s, suggests a study in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Investigators looked at 13,865 women between 1964 and 1976 and found the risk of spontaneous abortion was 60 percent greater when the father was age 40 or older than when he was 25 to 29 years old – regardless of the mother’s age. Even for men in their 30s, miscarriage risk was about three times greater than for those under 25. The study adds to growing evidence that men’s age can affect their partner’s pregnancy. – THE WASHINGTON POST
