Ridgeline Amber Ale, $7.49 a six-pack

As the days grow shorter, the beers get bolder.

Ridgeline Amber Ale from Great Divide Brewing in downtown Denver is in the style of a traditional Scottish ale.

The copper-colored Ridgeline is a bold, malty brew with a slight touch of hops and a good transition between the lighter beers of summer and the heavier ones that come around every fall and winter. Those familiar with lighter, less-assertive brown ales will want to give Ridgeline a tumble.

Longtime fans of this beer will recall it was the original Great Divide brew, released in 1994 and called Arapahoe Amber. The name was changed, said brewery owner Brian Dunn, “to better reflect the Colorado lifestyle.”

Great Divide’s beers are available in Colorado and nearby states.
