Denver City Auditor Dennis Gallagher and Mayor John Hickenlooper’s administration were unable to reach agreement on changes that would overhaul the city’s financial structure.

A task force of experts recommended the city create a chief financial officer who would be responsible for all of the city’s financial issues. But Gallagher, who oversees payroll and accounting currently, has been resistant to some of the committee’s recommendations.

Gallagher and the mayor’s chief of staff and City Attorney Cole Finegan told City Council last week they would find common ground by a meeting this afternoon. Instead, Gallagher has called a press conference for 11 a.m. to announce his ideas.
