Cookbook author and restaurateur Rick Bayless shared his love of Mexican culture and cooking Saturday morning on Channel 6, Saturday afternoon live at Fillmore Plaza and in a panel discussion Friday night at Pismo Gallery, all part of the Cherry Creek North Gourmet Series and the Rocky Mountain PBS Meet the Chefs gala.
After taking questions from the audience Friday at the PBS fundraiser with fellow PBS cooking show hosts Lidia Bastianich and Nick Stellino, Bayless paused for an interview for The Post’s Spanish-
language website, al Día.
The son of operators of an Oklahoma City barbecue restaurant, Bayless, owner of Frontera Grill and Topolobampo in Chicago, said he fell in love with Mexican culture and food on a school trip and has spent his life getting to know the country’s many flavors and cooking styles.
He said he would not open more restaurants around the country because he prefers to stay close to home and cook in his restaurants. | Kristen Browning-Blas
