A lightning-sparked fire discovered at 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon was burning about 30 acres of pinon and juniper on Ute Mountain two miles southeast of the Mesa Verde National Park boundary late this morning.

The Mancos 2 fire is burning on rugged terrain on a mesa top surrounded by canyons, San Juan Public Lands Center spokeswoman Laurie Robison said.

The Durango-based San Juan Hotshots and two 20-person prison crews from Pueblo are fighting the fire. It was estimated at 11:30 a.m. to be about 25 percent contained.
