The Avalanche and the University of Denver announced Thursday the annual Burgundy & White Game for local charities will be played at DU’s Magness Arena at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Monday at the DU and Pepsi Center box offices and through Ticketmaster.
Arapahoe Park to hold program Monday
Arapahoe Park officials announced the horse track in Aurora will hold a racing program at 1 p.m. Monday to replace the event that did not take place Aug. 21.
Track officials, after meeting with the jockey colony and the Colorado Horse Racing Association, made the decision to cancel the Aug. 21 racing program.
Mesa State wins football opener
Bobby Coy scored three touchdowns in the first half and another in the second to lead Mesa State to a 42-14 win over Dixie (Utah) State on Thursday night.
Coy opened the scoring with a 4-yard run, then scored from 15 yards out after Dixie tied the game with an 84-yard pass play. Coy caught a 27-yard pass from Sean McGraw for his third score of the half.
DU basketball teams announce schedules
The University of Denver announced its men’s basketball schedule, including the Pioneers’ first trip to Boulder in 16 years. The Pioneers open the season Nov. 10 at Colorado to renew a series that dates to 1904. DU opens its home schedule Nov. 14 against Southern Utah at Magness Arena.
DU also announced the schedule for the women’s team, which begins at home against Lamar on Nov. 18 at Hamilton Gymnasium. Other highlights include a Dec. 3 trip to Fort Collins to play Colorado State.
Rage signs Columbine graduate
The Broomfield-based Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League signed forward Chip Dunleavy, a graduate of Columbine High School who played collegiately at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
