The Colorado Ballet and Denver Musicians Association have reached a one-year agreement that will boost pay for the company’s pit orchestra by 3 percent, both organizations announced today.
Musician pay will increase from $94 to $96.82 for each rehearsal or performance and the size of the orchestra for the ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” will increase from 31 to 38 musicians.
In addition, the musicians have agreed to donate their services for a student matinee performance of “The Nutcracker” for disadvantaged children, and the ballet and the musicians association will co-sponsor a fundraiser.
“There have been some challenges in the previous years, but at least we’re on a good track, and hopefully this will be a good sign of things to come,” said Adolph Mares, secretary-treasurer of the Denver Musicians Association.
