Ken Kesey said you’re either on the bus or off the bus. The Denver Rustlers are on the bus.
The Rustlers are a group of big-hat Denver men and women who support the kids at the State Fair by heading to Pueblo every year to attend and bid at the Junior Livestock Auction.
In different days, the group used to jump onto a donated United plane and fly to Pueblo for the afternoon, then fly back. But today it would take longer to do that than to take buses, so the gang meets Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Del Frisco’s for a BIG lunch, then they ride two hours south.
At the fair, they get a VIP welcome, the band plays, cocktails are served, and the livestock sale begins. The Rustlers have a big pot of money to make sure all the kids come out smelling good.
It’s an election year, so look for every politician in town to be with the Rustlers. It’s a good chance to get your picture taken while wearing a cowboy hat standing next to kids and cattle.
Heading up this year’s ride are Dick Robinson, Frances Koncilja, Gary Levine and Larry Mizel. Strapholders, who pitched in $650 each, include Mayor John Hickenlooper; Gov. Bill Owens; Gov. candidates Bob Beauprez and Bill Ritter; congressional candidates Rick O’Donnell and Ed Perlmutter; Rep. Mark Udall; Denver Post bigs William Dean Singleton, Greg Moore and Gary Clark; Joe Blake; Hank Brown; Carol Boigon; Steve Chotin; Elbra Wedgeworth; Wellington Webb; KC Veio; Steve Toltz; Marc Steron; Eddie Robinson; Jeanne Robb; Douglas Seserman; Marcia Johnson; Steve Jordan; Bob Lee; Doug Linkhart; Kathleen MacKenzie; David Mandarich; J Madden; Dennis Gallagher; Walt Imhoff; Jake Jabs; Paul Esserman; Steve Farber; Cole Finegan and others too powerful to mention.
Calendar girls
KBPI radio is shooting its 2007 Star Spangled Bikini Calendar this month – including a photo stop at Carmelo Anthony’s bodacious crib this weekend.
Seems Anthony’s girlfriend La La Vasquez got friendly with the station at one of its car shows (her decked-out, hot-pink Range Rover was recently featured on the cover of Celebrity car magazine). They worked out the deets. The calendar cover girl was picked Thursday night at Eck’s Saloon in what one KBPI staffer describes as “a raunchy pageant.”
It was not yet clear where they would shoot the listener/model at Anthony’s, although there was much talk of lingerie and shower scenes. Carmelo, of course, was in Sapporo, Japan, with Team USA and unable to oversee the action.
KBPI morning host Willie G told me on the air he planned to clog Carmelo’s toilet. I think he was kidding.
