He began the month of August by becoming the oldest man to win gold at the X Games.

Now, Jeff Ward, 45, will end the month as the hottest driver on the AMA Supermoto Championship series.

Ward on Saturday capped the Fay Myers Suzuki Supermoto Classic in the parking lot of Invesco Field at Mile High with two victories. He will leave Denver with three victories in four races and a 22-point advantage in the series standings, up from 11 points before Friday.

“It was a good weekend in terms of the championship,” said Ward, who was also inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame earlier this month.

Ward’s 300 points pace the season series. Doug Henry, who finished second behind Ward in three of four races over the weekend, trails at 278. There are three rounds remaining on the schedule, with the next round beginning Sept. 22 in Elkhart Lake, Wis.
