As President Bush visited the scene of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation Monday, two Colorado Democrats in Congress blasted his response to the disaster.
Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver, who went to New Orleans with a group of House Democrats on Monday, said the response to the 2005 hurricane has been worse than the storm.
“The administration’s immediate response to Katrina was marked by chaos, confusion and gross incompetence,” she said.
DeGette plans to tour Mississippi today and join Democrats Wednesday at a news conference to announce a “new direction for the Gulf Coast.”
Sen. Ken Salazar said the federal government “has consistently failed the people of the Gulf Coast in their time of greatest need.”
In response, White House officials released a statement saying Bush “has delivered leadership that is helping the region rebuild and recover.”
