Sierra Nevada Brown Ale, $7.49 a six-pack
First on tap, now in bottles.
Sierra Nevada Brewing, one of microbrewing’s longest-running operations, is best known for its flagship pale ale (six gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival) but now it’s going deeper, darker.
Sierra Nevada Brown Ale is a definite change, a traditional English- style brown ale with East Golding hops for aroma.
A deep ruby/copper color, this brown ale is a sterling example of the style, slightly sweet but well-balanced with just a hint of hops at the end. A long-lasting, off-white head looks nice and helps retain some of the carbonation. The alcohol content is 5.5 percent (by volume).
The company is reluctant to call Sierra Nevada Brown Ale a “seasonal,” preferring to market it as a “limited release” for the fall.
This is another feather in Sierra Nevada’s brewing hat.
