Olympians Alan Culpepper, a resident of Lafayette, and Tom Nyariki will run in the New York City Marathon for the first time this November.
Culpepper finished eighth in the inaugural New York City Half-Marathon on Sunday. Nyariki, from Kenya, won the race.
The race will be held Nov. 5.
Two share top spot at USGA Senior qualifier
Three players – Jerry Kidney of Littleton, James Pierce of Oro Valley, Ariz., and Jack Manzi of Lakewood – qualified for the USGA Senior Amateur Championship after posting the top scores Monday in a sectional qualifier at Vista Ridge Golf Club in Erie.
Kidney and Pierce shot the best rounds of the day, 1-under-par 71s. Manzi won a three-way playoff after his 74 tied Scott Crone of Denver and Roger Gunderson of Aurora.
Crone and Gunderson are the first two alternates.
The Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind., from Sept. 16-21.
