Site of the week: So the kiddies have less time to surf the Web this week and more homework to do. That’s a relief; they probably spent more time on MySpace this summer than the recommended daily allowance. But now you might as well help them fill their downtime with more useful Internet sources, and a bunch of them are bundled at pbskids.org/go/. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has sponsored a cool handful of interactive sites that offer games, information and consumer tips to so-called “tweens,” those impressionable minds between 9 and 12. The “Don’t Buy It” site alone is worth the trip, helping kids sort their way through unhealthy magazine-model images and how they get airbrushed, to how to avoid scams and blowing money on “hot” toy trends.

Watch this Web video: We’re so tired of animal-based animated movies that we almost didn’t open the link on the cute polar bears. But it turns out these bears are British, and have a naughty sense of humor that makes for perfect movie shorts. The polar shorts were done for a BBC show; go to www.passion-pictures.com/ (be sure to include the hyphen) to watch “Gary’s Fall”; these wisecracking bears are destined to be a full-length movie someday. | Michael Booth
