Getting your player ready...

If weddings and cookouts don’t turn your crank as much as bikes and beer this Labor Day weekend, consider clearing your social calendar and heading up to Beaver Creek for the Jeep King of the Mountain 2006 Mountain Biking World Professional Championships. Set for Sunday, the $100,000 event will feature 16 national and international champions duking it out with local open qualifier Chris DelBosco of Vail and a host of top Americans in the season finale. The event coincides with Beaver Creek’s Oktoberfest celebration at the Village Plaza, offering live entertainment, costume contests and traditional food and music. Training and seeding runs take place Saturday from 1-3 p.m. on the Haymeadow Race Course at the foot of Beaver Creek Mountain, followed by an athlete autograph session from 3:30-5 p.m. The championship races run from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. All events are free and open to the public.
