Agnes Sanchez built her own glass furnace, and now she’s building buzz for the promised arts studio community in gritty Elyria/Swansea with her huge functional and funky decorative hand-blown glasswork. You can visit and buy objects like vases and chunky glass tiles swirled with color and marvel at her huge Medusa chandeliers. She works at the studio most afternoons, but call before you go.

For years, Denver- based Tomboy Tools resisted making their sized-for-women hand tools pink. Too much stereotype wrapped up in that. But when it’s pink with a purpose? Well, that’s something the woman-owned company says it could get behind. On Friday, Tomboy Tools launched a scheme to donate $6 for every pink hammer sold – a minimum of $600,000 by Aug. 30, 2007 – to help the Susan G. Komen Foundation hammer out breast cancer.
