Red Hawk Industries, one of the metro area’s fastest-growing private companies, will be acquired by a unit of United Technologies Corp., a Fortune 50 company.

UTC Fire & Security has agreed to pay just under $140 million for the Denver-based company, which provides security and automated-teller-machine services to financial institutions.

Red Hawk employs about 800 workers in more than 25 states, including 200 in Colorado, where it has three locations.

Red Hawk has made 16 acquisitions since its start in 1999, and was constantly on the hunt for more capital to fuel its growth, said chief executive Greg Johnson.

Red Hawk reported $142 million in sales last year. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., reported sales of $42.7 billion last year, ranking 43rd among the Fortune 500.

Johnson said no job reductions are planned.
