Authorities are reviewing charges already filed against a Delta man who allegedly beat an 81-year-old woman last month after the victim died last week.
Mark Grover, 55, previously had been charged with second-degree assault of an at-risk person and abusing a toxic substance, said Delta Police Chief Rick Bacher.
The woman was beaten Aug. 13 and was taken to a local hospital. Police were called and Grover was named as the suspect, Bacher said.
Bacher said he could not describe Grover’s relationship to the woman because she was an at-risk victim and could not be identified. He also said he could not describe the assault other than to say that the suspect did not use a weapon.
The woman died Tuesday. The Delta County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy and reported Thursday night that the cause of death was homicide, Bacher said. “The investigation is in the initial phases,” he said.
Grover remains in custody at the Delta County Detention Facility, with bail set at $60,000.
The police chief did not say whether murder charges will be filed against Grover.
