THE CALCIUM CREW
The milk campaign never ends, it just finds new people to adorn with white mustaches. The latest version is designed to appeal to teens and features Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, left; soccer star David Beckham; skater Sasha Cohen; and “American Idol” Carrie Underwood. Supported by the American Dietetic Association and the School Nutrition Association, the campaign is pushing teens to quaff more milk and less soda, with magazine ads and a website to educate kids about the impact of what they drink. Bodybymilk.com has interactive features designed to teach teens about what they’re drinking and by using bar codes on milk cartons as currency, visitors can bid on prizes from such companies as Fender clothing and Baby Phat.
CHEAPER AND LESS BOSSY
For those who like the idea of a personal trainer you don’t have to actually talk to, the calm and friendly Chris Freytag leads exercisers through five targeted workouts on the “Prevention Fitness Systems Personal Training” DVD (Gaiam, $14.98). The workouts are designed to help participants lose weight, get firm, improve their health, flatten their bellies or slim their hips and thighs. And each workout has a weekly schedule, so viewers can just click on the day of the week in a chosen workout. (You can’t click on Sunday; it says “rest.”) Bonus segments include portion control, moves to beat knee pain and a waistline checkup. | Florida Sun-Sentinel
GOING THE DISTANCE
In the past 20 years, father-son team Dick and Rick Hoyt have competed in more than 900 triathlons, marathons and other distance races. What makes “Team Hoyt” different from other distance and endurance athletes is that Rick is a quadriplegic who can’t walk or talk, so his father pushes or pulls him during races. Retired from the Air National Guard, the senior Hoyt now spends much of his time traveling with Rick to both sporting events and speaking engagements on behalf of the Hoyt Fund (teamhoyt.com). The fund’s goal is to integrate the physically
challenged into everyday life, both by educating the able-bodied and by helping the disabled participate in activities. The Hoyts will be featured at the annual Keshet of the Rockies dinner Thursday at BMH-BJ, 560 S. Monaco Parkway. For information and reservations, call Lola Zussman at 303-399-4130.
