SEPT. 26 A BIG DAY Two women with impressive pedigrees – Rain Pryor, left, and Cecile Richards – will headline separate events Sept. 26 in the Donald R. Seawell Grand Ballroom. “When Daddy (late actor-comedian Richard Pryor) found out he had multiple sclerosis, his life slowed down enough to let me in,” says Pryor, keynote speaker for the ninth Women Against MS Luncheon. “We cried together and mended, and healed the old wounds that lingered in the not-so-distant past. (When he died) I lost the love of my life.” Richards, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and daughter of former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, will be the special guest at a 5:30 p.m. cocktail reception celebrating the 90th anniversary of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. “We’re 90 years old and still talking about sex!” exclaims Dr. Dean Prina, who chairs the event with Jennifer Evans and Susie Mostow.

RIGGS, HOMESTYLE Now that her gig as an afternoon anchor for CBS4 has ended, Stephanie Riggs enjoys a more traditional role as wife and stepmom. She also has gone back to her roots, so to speak. Riggs has let her hair, once a couple of shades lighter with blond highlights, return to its natural dark brown shade.

REMEMBERING RUSTON The death of Florence Ruston, left, on Aug. 31 marked the end of an era in Denver society, and at a memorial observance several friends shared warm – and often humorous – memories of her amazing life. “First she taught me how to dance on a stage, then she taught me the whole world’s a stage,” recalled Judi Wolf. “She was a gal who loved the glitter of bright lights and fine jewelry – her jewelry, my jewelry, your jewelry …” Donald R. Seawell, founder and chairman of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, said that at the Oct. 5 opening of “Amadeus,” the DCPA will present its first Florence Ruston Award for Philanthropy in the Arts Award to Bob and Judi Newman. Former Columbine High School Principal Warren Hanks, who, like Ruston, volunteered on behalf of Arapahoe House and the Barbara Davis Center, announced that the atrium at the new Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes on the Fitzsimons medical campus will bear Ruston’s name.
