Scott Mendelsohn of South Suburban fired a final-round 2-under-par 70 on Sunday to make up three strokes and finish at 1-over 217 to win the Colorado Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship at The Country Club at Castle Pines.

Mendelsohn overtook defending champion Steve Irwin of Lakewood Country Club, who shot 76 in the final round to finish second at 220. Mendelsohn trailed by three strokes after 11 holes Sunday, but made an easy birdie on the par-3 14th after nearly holing out his tee shot. Mendelsohn then claimed the lead after a birdie on the par-5 16th when Irwin made bogey.

Michael Harrington of Kissing Camels, who qualified for the round of 16 last week at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, finished third after shooting a third-round 74 for 222. Jim Doidge of Pueblo Country Club and Steve Murphy of The Canterberry Club tied for fourth at 224.

Memphis men’s soccer team outlasts host DU

The Memphis men’s soccer team, ranked No. 25, got a goal and an assist from Kevin Walsh to defeat Denver 2-1 at Pioneer Field. Denver (4-3-1) outshot Memphis (7-1-0) 6-1 in the first half, but Walsh capitalized on the lone shot with a goal in the 27th minute.
