Daisy Cooks! TV chef Daisy Martinez is fun to watch, but she also knows her stuff. Latin cuisine is the name of the game with special emphasis on Caribbean, Spanish and especially Puerto Rican cuisine. Upcoming shows will feature tostones (twice-fried plantain chips), pollo con higos (braised chicken with figs), pernil (roast pork with garlic) and habichuelas con dulce (sweet bean dessert). Best of all, she’s on PBS: No ads.|”Daisy Cooks! With Daisy Martinez,” KRMA-Channel 6, 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. |Tucker Shaw
Roasted green chiles: The season will be gone before you know it, so stock up now. Follow your nose to find purveyors in your area. Here are three spots where we found good ones: 1) Outside Jack-N-Grill at 2524 Federal Blvd.; 2) Bromley Lane between Fourth and Eighth avenues in Brighton; and 3) 2233 S. Broadway, between Warren and Iliff avenues. There are dozens of other chile roasters across the state. Buy extra, because they freeze well. And nothing’s better on a cold January afternoon than a bowl of homemade green chile. |Various locations|Tucker Shaw
