Comcast plans to add 500 call-center jobs in Colorado by the end of 2007, the cable giant said Monday.

The company is opening two new call centers in Denver and Colorado Springs by the end of this year to assist residential and commercial customers.

The starting wages will range from $11 to $13 an hour depending on experience, Comcast spokeswoman Cindy Parsons said. The company is hiring immediately.

The new jobs will be split evenly between the two centers, located at 7150 S. Fulton St. in Centennial and 4920 Centennial Blvd. in Colorado Springs.

Comcast employs about 4,000 in the state.

“News of job creation is always encouraging, and the fact that it touches two of Colorado’s communities is even more exciting,” said Jeff Holwell, division director of business development for the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.

Philadelphia-based Comcast has 800,000 cable subscribers in Colorado. The company recently gained roughly 100,000 customers in the Colorado Springs area after Adelphia Communications exited from the cable operations business.

The Denver call center will handle calls from business customers nationwide. The Colorado Springs call center will assist local residential customers.

Comcast said it will spend more than $10 million to renovate the new call centers, which will be in existing buildings.

“The new jobs are ideal for individuals who are passionate about customer service and want to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment that offers real career growth potential,” said Susan Rardin, vice president of customer service for Comcast Colorado, in a statement.
