Nuggets forward-center Nene, who was limited to one game last season because of a knee injury, has been participating in pre-training camp workouts at the Pepsi Center.

Big Sky salutes UNC player’s special effort

Northern Colorado senior defensive end Matt West was named Big Sky Conference special-teams player of the week. West recovered a blocked punt and returned it for a touchdown Saturday in the Bears’ 14-13 win at Texas State.

Colorado’s Amber Sutherland, a 5-foot-10 junior outside hitter from Glenwood Springs, was named Big 12 volleyball player of the week after averaging 5.88 kills and 2.75 digs as the Buffaloes won two conference matches.

For the second time in three weeks, Adams State junior kicker and punter Wayne Durham is the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference special teams player of the week. Durham leads the Grizzlies in scoring with 24 points, is 6-for-7 on field-goal attempts this season and leads the RMAC in punting with a 44.8-yard average.

Regis University’s Chelsea Pavlik was named the RMAC’s East Division volleyball player of the week. She had 37 kills and 45 digs to lead the Rangers to two wins.
