NEW YORK-
Readers of Spa Finder publications and the Spafinder.com Web site have chosen Arizona's Miraval, Life in Balance as their "favorite spa" in North America.
The Spa Finder awards were announced Sept. 11.
Other favorites around the world were Sante Winelands Hotel and Wellness Center in Paarl, South Africa; Chiva-Som in Hua Hin, Thailand; Brenner's Park Hotel & Spa in Baaden-Baaden, Germany, and the Kurotel Longevity Center and Spa in Gramado, Brazil.
Awards were also given by type of spa. Spa Finder listed the 10 best affordable spas as Copperhead Inn & Spa, Shandaken, N.Y.; Deerfield Spa, E. Stroudsburg, Pa.; Green Mountain at Fox Run, Ludlow, Vt.; New Age Health Spa, Neversink, N.Y.; New Life Hiking Spa, Killington, Vt.; The Oaks at Ojai, Ojai, Calif.; Rancho La Puerta, Tecate, Baja California, Mexico; Red Mountain Spa, Ivans, Utah; The Regency House, Hallandale, Fla.; and Tennessee Fitness Spa, Waynesboro, Tenn.
In the category of best urban hotel spas, the top 10 were Banyan Tree in Bangkok; Bliss 49 in New York and Bliss Chicago; Mandarin Orientals in New York, London and Washington; the Park Hyatt Toronto in Stillwater Spa, Canada; The Oriental in Bangkok; and Peninsula Spas in Beverly Hills, Calif., and Chicago.
Spa Finder publishes Luxury SpaFinder Magazine and an annual Worldwide Guide to Spas in addition to running the SpaFinder.com Web site, where readers voted on more than 1,000 different spas. They were asked to cast ballots only for spas they've visited within the past three years.
