PepsiCo Inc., the world’s second- largest soft drink company, bought Boulder-based Izze Beverage Co. to expand into healthier sparkling fruit-juice drinks.

Terms of the deal, announced today, were not disclosed.


Izze, makers of natural, sparkling fruit juices, said the company and its 29 employees would remain in Colorado. A Pepsi executive is expected to move to the area to help market and distribute the beverages.


The move helps Izze expand nationally and Pepsi retain customers are who turning away from artificial sodas for healthier choices. The beverages are sold at retailers including Starbucks, Target and Wild Oats.


“We’ve prided ourselves on responding to brand trends,” said Dawn Hudson, president and chief executive officer of Pepsi-Cola North America.
