As of Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at least 2,706 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,155 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.

The AP count is three more than the Defense Department’s tally, last updated Wednesday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 118 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 17; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, five; El Salvador, four; Slovakia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Romania, one death each.

The latest death reported by the military:

— Two soldiers died Tuesday southwest of Baghdad in a non-hostile incident.

— A soldier was killed Monday in Anbar province.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

— Army Spc. Jared J. Raymond, 20, Swampscott, Mass.; died Sept. 19 in Balad when his vehicle struck an explosive; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

— Marine Pfc. Christopher T. Riviere, 21, Cooper City, Fla.; died Tuesday in Anbar province; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
