DENVER – All 24 members of a new statewide commission on health care are in place, and the panel is ready to begin trying to remedy the ailing health care system, lawmakers announced Thursday.

The commission members, appointed by Gov. Bill Owens and legislative leaders, include state and local officials, business leaders, health care advocates, think-tank members, doctors and insurance company representatives.

The panel, called the Blue Ribbon Panel for Comprehensive Health Care Reform, was created by the legislature last session and will hold its first meeting next month.

The commission will hold meetings on the topic across the state and ultimately will present to the legislature proposals designed to ensure access to affordable health care for all Coloradans.

More than 770,000 people in Colorado lack health insurance.
