The Colorado Public Utilities Commission will hold public hearings Oct. 12 and Oct. 23 to take public comment on Xcel Energy’s request for a $209.9 million electric-rate increase.
The rate hike would raise typical residential electric bills by $6.52 a month, or 11.6 percent. Small-business bills would increase by an average of $9.96 a month, or 11.1 percent.
The Oct. 12 hearing in Grand Junction is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Old Courthouse Annex, 544 Rood Ave. The Oct. 23 hearing in Denver will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the PUC, 1580 Logan St., Hearing Room A.
Xcel is asking for its authorized rate of return on equity, or profit, to rise from 10.75 percent to 11 percent. Xcel also is seeking approval for late-payment fees, an increase in the charge for returned checks and a hike in Windsource voluntary wind- power rates.
